Pipeline Clearance in Teesside
During Winter 2006-2007 Weedfree staff undertook a massive vegetation clearance contract for BOC on 13 miles of gas pipelines Teesside. The work involved tree cutting, scrub clearance and complete removal of the surface vegetation that had built up over many years. The pipeline loop is a critical part of the local infrastructure, supplying gases to major industrial sites. Clear access to the pipeline is safety critical, to enable the client to make regular checks for condition and security. As well as preventing access, dense vegetation is a tripping hazard, can degrade structures, and is a fire risk, especially in late summer. One of the challenges to our team was identifying and liaising with the scores of landowners along the pipeline route. Vegetation clearance was completed on target in March 2007, and a regular herbicide programme from now onwards will prevent regrowth.
